Clean Water Access for the Community
Water is essential to human life for many reasons, such as drinking, cooking, bathing, and agricultural production. Unfortunately, marginalized communities throughout the world, particularly rural ones, lack reliable access to clean water sources as well as integral irrigation systems. In the specific case of Colombia, 97% of the urban population has reliable access to clean water, but only 74% of the rural population has reliable access to clean water. This stark reality is noticeable in small communities of less than 1,000 inhabitants that are spread throughout Colombia’s vast savannahs and plains, particularly in regions where rain is seasonal. One such region is the department of Cordoba, where Farmfolio’s Ganaderia Pietrasanta (GP) is located. Therefore, our team has decided to support and enhance water access for our surrounding communities and our operation.
Clean Water Access for the Community
Farmfolio recently created its new Foundation for social responsibility and community initiatives. Through this new 501c3 corporation, Farmfolio will be able to both fundraise and finance a series of projects that our team has identified alongside the community in order to improve the livelihoods of our employees and neighboring communities. The first series of projects that the Farmfolio Foundation is working on will benefit the communities surrounding our Ganaderia Pietrasanta (GP) operation in northern Colombia. Firstly, the Foundation will expand the existing waterworks infrastructure for the communities surrounding the farm as it has already done in GP. This project will ensure that families and children in the region enjoy a more reliable access to clean drinking water. Currently, the main rural communities surrounding Farmfolio’s GP are La Julia, which has approximately 40 families or some 200 people; El Balsal, which has a school with 65 students between the ages of 5 and 12; 10 De Febrero, which hosts a school with 28 students; and Cocuelo with about 90 students. Providing clean water to schools, most of which also serve as community centers, will benefit all of these small towns, particularly during the non-rainy months of the year.
Once the Foundation has completed this water accessibility project, we will move on to our other scheduled initiatives, notably the finalizing of a library and youth community center on the grounds of Farmfolio’s GP. Therefore, Farmfolio’s Foundation is in the process of finalizing an initiatives brochure that will breakdown the fundraising needs of these projects and let our friends know how their donations will directly transform the life of communities around GP. Moreover, the Farmfolio Foundation will honor its benefactors with a symbolic membership into the Green Coconut Circle, the Golden Pineapple Circle, or the Teak Circle, depending on their donation amount. In order to raise funds, the Foundation will not only receive voluntary donations but it will also organize raffles and auctions to benefit its charities. Please stay tuned for more information on the Farmfolio Foundation and our upcoming brochure, we expect that all donations from US-based benefactors will be tax-deductible.
