World Diabetes Day

November 14th is World Diabetes Day!

At Farmfolio we want to support this initiative from The International Diabetes Federation (IDF), which is since 1950 an umbrella organization of over 230 national diabetes associations in 170 countries and territories that represents the interests of the growing number of people with diabetes and those at risk.

The World Diabetes Day 2017 campaign will promote the importance of affordable and equitable access for all women at risk for or living with diabetes to the essential diabetes medicines and technologies, self-management education and information they require to achieve optimal diabetes outcomes and strengthen their capacity to prevent type 2 diabetes.

The coconut we’re currently growing at Ganaderia Pietrasanta in Colombia can be consumed as water, milk, flour and oil and it can have a variety of benefits for people with diabetes. Remember that coconut is actually a one-seeded drupe, not a nut, nor a fruit.

Coconuts are high in naturally occurring saturated fat from short and medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) such as lauric acid. They also contain vitamin C, thiamin (vitamin B1), folate, potassium, manganese, copper, selenium, iron, phosphorous and potassium.

We are against the stigmatization and discrimination faced by people with diabetes, who not only have to deal with the burden of their disease but who also face a series of challenges imposed by a society that doesn’t always know how to better support the efforts of these individuals to have a normal life.

Coconuts are generally regarded as having a number of advantages for people with diabetes. At Farmfolio, we’re happy to know that the coconuts we’re currently growing in Colombia will one day become part of the diet of a diabetes patient. For this and other reasons, November 14th is also a very important Day for Farmfolio.

Come and join us together with the IDF in raising awareness for this important health issue!
